Time For Tea

After five minutes of sitting on the floor Mae got up and took herself to bed. This was a shock to her system. A part of her knew this could happen, as it had happened so many times before. Any guy she was remotely interested in always happened to be, with someone else, not her. This was so typical.

Mae’s dreams that night weren’t romantic at all, there were more like nightmares. Mae kept on waking and falling back to sleep because she kept on having the same dream. The dream was Marc had asked her out, and when she got to where they were meeting, Marc would tell her he had a girlfriend. Mae’s date was with a big black pile of ooze.

When it was time for Mae to get up, Mae just laid there and thought about life. It had only been two days, and she had been up and now she down. It was hard for her as this was something she didn’t realise she wanted, for it to only be snatched away so quickly. However, when Mae looked at the brighter side of things at least she found out after two days and not longer, as it might have been much more difficult to take.

Mae thought about the kind of boyfriend Marc was. He was very rude to his girlfriend when she was on the phone, and when she was upstairs. This definitely wasn’t the Marc she was getting to know, but there again she had only had a twenty minute conversation with him. Trying to make friends would be his number one priority, so showing he’s a rude jerk probably wouldn't be the best way to make friends. Or maybe the way he was with Mae was what he was like when he started dating his girlfriend. Maybe they were really unhappy, but Mae shut down the idea as it would give her false hope.

When Mae’s stomach kept crying to be fed, she got out of bed. In her pyjama’s she walked to the living area to get something to eat. As she did Marc’s girlfriend was in the kitchen. She was going through Marc’s cupboard, and was wearing, a grey sweat top and leggings. Mae knew the top right away; it was the same one Marc was wearing when they first met.

            ‘Hi,’ said Mae, announcing herself.

‘Oh hey honey,’ said the girl, turning around to face Mae. ‘Don’t mind me, I’m meant to be making his highness some breakfast. But what the hell am I meant to make when this guy doesn’t keep anything in his cupboard. I mean look, two boxes of Coco Pops, a box of Frosties, and Golden Nuggets. Seriously this boy’s love of cereal is crazy.’

‘Yeah,’ Mae said slowly, unsure what else to say.

‘I don’t even know what’s his inside the fridge. I can take a wild guess and say the six pint of milk is his, but what about like actual cooking ingredients. You know what screw it, I’ll order a pizza and save myself the hassle.’

Mae stood in the same spot listing to the girl going on, she didn’t know where to place herself. Mae hoped now she wasn’t going to be cooking anything she would just go back to Marc’s room so Mae could get on with her life.

‘But look me going on and on about that fool and I haven’t even introduced myself.’ The girl said moving towards Mae, ‘Hi my name is Tee,’

            ‘Tee?’ asked Mae.

‘Yeah not like the letter T, as in time for Tea.’

‘Oh,’ said Mae, finally comprehending what she was saying.

‘And I’ve heard all the jokes, so let’s not go there.’

‘Well I’m Mae with an E nice to meet you. It’s a very interesting name you’ve got.’

‘Well yeah,’ said Tea, ‘my mum says I’m the only one to blame. When she was pregnant with me she kept having cravings for tea, something she hated before she was pregnant. So she would have green tea, peppermint tea, camomile, strawberry, ginger, English breakfast and earl grey. When it came time for a name she loved tea and loved me. I do wish she would have thought through the playground thing, but you know, I beat those guys up. Some say I got my own back by being a lesbian, no grandkids for her.’

‘Ahh huh,’ said Mae, only half paying attention, ‘wait what!’ Mae had only just realised what Tea had just said. ‘You’re a lesbian?’

‘Yeah honey,’ said Tea, ‘one big lesbian in the flesh.’

Suddenly the world seemed to come back to colour for Mae. Tea was a lesbian, so she couldn’t be Marc’s girlfriend. Marc was single and still an option.

‘Oh my gosh I haven’t been so happy to meet a lesbian,’ said Mae, really enthusiastically. ‘This is like the greatest day of my life.’

‘Okay, this is a bit weird, but alright,’ said Tea, ‘are you a little curious?’

‘Oh no, no,’ said Mae, quickly. ‘It’s just that I thought you were… never mind I’m just excited to be meeting real people in the real world.’

‘I’m in the real world alright.’

Deciding to move the conversation away from Tea’s sexuality, Mae decided to make herself something to eat.

‘How long have you known Marc?’ Mae asked.

‘I’ve known Marc since school,’ said Tea, ‘it’s a pretty odd story really. Basically when we were like fourteen, Marc came up to me and asked me out. And I was like, no sorry I’m into girls, and at the time I hadn’t really told anyone. Marc was like, seriously? And I said yeah, I’m not blowing you off kinda thing. After that he became so interested in me, cos you know guys and lesbians. I don’t get it but whatever, and have been friends since. But what was good about it he never told anyone till I told people.’

Mae loved hearing this, as it was good to hear good things about Marc. He was a loyal friend to Tea, even if it was odd circumstances they got together. It was good to see Marc in a good light again; because of his actions last night did put a cloud over his character.

‘So how come Marc was so rude to you last night? Mae asked, wondering about it.

‘We’ve known each other for almost ten years, so we keep it loose. Plus I know his whole family, and we're more like siblings now days any way, since he hardly gets to see his brother.’

‘You know his brother,’ said Mae, sitting down at the counter with her toast. ‘He said something about him last night.’

‘Yeah not much to say really, just busy with his traveling and stuff.’

‘Okay,’ said Mae, not wanting to go further into the subject. ‘I guess you know tonnes of stuff about Marc.’

‘Course,’ said Tea, ‘I know so many stories I could sit hear all day, but I really should go tell his highness I’m ordering a pizza.’

            ‘Maybe you should,’

Before Tea could go and tell Marc the update, Marc had appeared in the room.

‘I thought you were making breakfast,’ said Marc, ‘Morning Mae.’

‘I would have if you didn’t only have cereal in your cupboard,’ Tea replied.

            ‘Is cereal not breakfast?’

‘Oh I’m sorry what did you last slave die of? Cos if I remember, the blacks stopped being slaves a long time ago.’

‘Next time you can sleep out on the street.’

‘Next time I’m going to slip something in your food.’

‘But Tea is going to order a pizza,’ piped up Mae, not knowing if the tension was serious or not.

‘What do you think about that Marcus?’ asked Tea.

‘That’s not my name, Tea Leaves,’ said Marc.

‘You did not just say that,’ said Tea, getting up and walking towards Marc. ‘Say it again if you’re bad.’

Marc looked Tea right in the face and then said, ‘okay Tea leaves.’

Tea didn’t react right away, she then started to laugh and turned to Mae and said, ‘do you remember what I said earlier?’ Mae nodded feeling very uncomfortable being on the spot. Tea quickly turned back and faced Marc, and when she did punched him right in the stomach. In doing so made Marc drop to the floor on his knees, and Marc letting out a little cry of pain.

‘Oh my gosh!’ shouted Mae, quickly rushing over to Marc, ‘Are you okay?’

‘I’m fine,’ said Marc, sounding winded.

‘Now what do I want on my pizza,’ said Tea, sitting back down.

Still in shock as to what happen, Mae decided to help Marc back to his feet. ‘Does she do that a lot?’ asked Mae.

‘Yes,’ said Marc, ‘because she’s a violent woman! But I will get her back.’

‘I’ll be waiting honey,’ said Tea, with a huge smile on her face, and a little wave.

‘We’re getting peperoni,’ said Marc, now walking towards Tea.

            ‘Whatever.’

Mae stood there perplex to what just happened, because they were back to normal as if nothing happened. The dynamic of their relationship was so alien to her. There were no friends of hers she could punch and then a minute later act like nothing happen. Even when she would have an argument with a friend it would take a while for things to get back to normal. It seemed they were an odd pair.

Like a good scientist Mae decided to take the opportunity to observe Marc and Tea. She did this to further understand their relationship, and be on standby just in case they needed a referee.  Mae decided to get a pizza with the two, and invited everyone in the flat to join them.

When the pizzas came, the six of them enjoyed it together. Mae took it upon herself to force the introduction of Marc to Sophitia, as she was the last to meet him. Tea on the other hand didn’t need help at all; she was a social master she bounced around the room like she belonged there. The effort she was putting made it seem like she lived with them, but Mae had to remind herself she was just a guest.

Tea several times tried to tell stories about her and Marc.  Marc was quick to put a lot of these stories to an end as they seemed to be embarrassing for Marc. One very interesting story she did tell was, when she met a girl and all of her friends were convinced she was a lesbian. To play a joke on them, Tea had volunteered to kiss her in front of her friends, which shocked them all.

‘Her name was Emma,’ said Tea, ‘I’ll never forget her as she was a fun girl, and a great kisser.’

‘I think everyone should have a gay experience,’ said Rosetta.

‘Have you had one?’ asked Sophitia.

‘Oh yes,’ said Rosetta, confidently. ‘Nowhere to Tea’s experience, but just some kissing and some over the top touching.’

‘That’s err very interesting,’ said Marc.

‘Mae I think me and you are missing out,’ said Sophitia.

‘I don’t think so,’ said Mae, waving off the idea.

‘You never know till you try,’ said Tea, now standing behind Mae. ‘You have a couple drinks, it sounds like a silly idea. Before you know it you’re kissing another girl.’

            ‘That sound fun,’ said Alexi.

‘It can be fun for you too,’ said Tea, now moving to Alexi. ‘You’re playing a game of spin the bottle and you hope that you get the girl you want, but sadly it goes to the really hot guy in the room. Then your kind stuck, cos if you don’t you’re a homophobe. So you pluck up the courage and you’re kissing a guy and it’s easy, just like a girl. Only difference you feel stubble. But at the back of your mind you think this is too nice, maybe I like boys now. Then when it’s over you remember it’s a learning experience. How does that sound to you Al?’

Alexi didn’t say anything right away, he then said, ‘good I guess.’

‘Excellent,’ said Tea, excitedly giving Alexi and little whack on the arm. ‘Seems like we’ve got to get a game of spin the bottle going.’

Mae had a quick daydream of playing spin the bottle. Watching the bottle spin and landing on Marc and getting the chance to kiss him. That would be so great.

‘We got to fight for equality ladies,’ said Tea, bringing Mae out of fantasy world. ‘We’ve got to stop these perv’s getting all excited about girls getting les’d up. We got to make the guys go gay so it’s fair and everyone wins.’

‘Here, here,’ cheered Sophitia and Rosetta.

‘What we going to do tonight?’ asked Tea, ‘playing a game of spin the bottle maybe? Or are we going to head out and enjoy the start of fresher’s week?’

‘I’m up for whatever,’ said Rosetta, ‘I want to party with you girl.’

‘Alright, that’s what I’m talking ‘bout,’ said Tea, high fiving Rosetta. ‘Mae my new bestie what we doing.’

‘Well, I, umm,’ Mae spluttered. She didn’t know what she wanted to do. If everyone was going especially Marc she would. At the same time she didn’t come to university to party. As bad as it was to say, if everyone else was going to do it, why shouldn’t she. ‘I… I… dunno.’

‘Ahh come on,’ said Tea, encouragingly. ‘Marc my oldest and dear friend you’re going to go right?’ Tea was now hugging Marc, and getting real cosy with him. ‘You’re not going to let two young beautiful women go out by themselves are you? I mean what would your Tosan say?’

‘Don’t listen to Tea,’ said Marc, shaking off Tea.

‘This is why you need me around, I’m social and you’re a bore.’ Tea said, shoving Marc’s head. ‘How about you two?’

There was a chorus of err's coming from Alexi and Sophitia.

Mae seeing the desperation on Tea’s face was pushing her decision. It was quite clear Tea and Rosetta were party girls, and Mae wasn’t. However, Tea seemed like a fun person to be around, and Mae would love to have some fun stories to tell. Why couldn’t she be a party girl just once? Then it occurred to her, if she went out with Tea she could learn more about Marc.

‘Alright I’ll go,’ said Mae, suddenly.

‘That’s my girl,’ said Tea, giving Mae a hug, ‘I knew you were fun.’

            ‘I go too,’ said Alexi.

‘Me too!’ said Sophitia, straight after Alexi finished.

‘Well it seems were almost a full house, were just missing one,’ said Tea, turning her head to Marc.

            ‘Fine,’ said Marc, sounding defeated.

‘Excellent,’ said Tea, ‘well I’d better go get something to wear, we’ll meet back at nine. Come on Marc I need to borrow something to shop in.’

Tea then grabbed Marc and pulled him from the room.

‘That Tea certainly is something,’ said Rosetta.

            ‘Yes she is,’ agreed Mae.

That evening as Mae got dressed she was slightly thankful her mum had insisted on packing a few dresses. Even though she hadn’t thought she would be heading out tonight, she knew this was an excellent opportunity for Marc to take notice of her. She had decided to wear the simple black dress; it was a moderate length and had a small belt, wasn’t cut too low and had little sleeves. Mae only ever wore flats, so she was wearing the special ones her mum had chosen.

The only things that confused Mae were, what to do with her hair and how to do her make up. As silly as it was Mae had always allowed people to do her makeup, she never really ever had any use for it. When she was at school she would let a friend do it while she was reading. Or when she had to go to her leaving party her mum did it.

As Mae sat and looked in her mirror, she realised this was such a girl thing. This was something she should know as a girl, and she was disappointed she never learned how to do these kinds of things.

‘Okay,’ said Mae, to herself. She needed to make decisions and quick. She decided for her hair she would just straighten it and just let it out. As for the makeup she didn’t know. She didn’t want to take the risk, and end up looking like a clown. Then she had an idea.

Mae went and knocked on Sophitia’s door. When the door opened Sophitia looked very good. She was wearing a low cut white dress, which had had lace look flower design on the skirt. She also had obviously done her own make up, as she was made up with perfect eyeliner, smoky eyes and a rose lipstick. This look made Sophitia really stand out, while at the same time made Mae take notice of her breasts.

‘You look so good,’ said Mae, sincerely.

            ‘Thanks,’ said Sophitia.

‘I need you to do me a favour.’

            ‘Sure what is it?’

‘I need you to do my make up.’

After Mae had told Sophitia her sad story, Sophitia was more than happy to help. She took Mae’s make up bag to find Mae’s mum had really gotten her some of the best things she would need. As Sophitia went to work, she told Mae what she was doing, and being a good student Mae took notes. When they were done Mae loved how she looked. Sophitia had evened out her skin tone, it looked the same shade of coco brown but more even. She then had gone for simple eyes, with slightly darker lower lashes, and had chosen with a coral lipstick that went with her skin tonne.

Another suggestion Sophitia had was to slightly curl the end of Mae’s hair, to just liven up the look. Mae believing Sophitia was a genius let her run with it.

‘You’ve made me look so pretty,’ said Mae, trying not cry.  ‘You’re a genius.’

‘Oh its nothing,’ said Sophitia, humbly. ‘My brother used to date a makeup artist so I learned a few tips.’

‘You know I wish I would have paid attention to my mum, I owe her an apology.’

Five minutes later Mae went back to her room to finish getting ready. She had put on tights for the cold, and got things she would need to put in her bag. As she went into the small clutch she pulled out a box of condoms. Her mum had really gotten everything. After emptying the bag and hiding the contents in her drawers, Mae put the necessities of debit card, ID, keys and lipstick in her bag, and was ready to go. Before she left her room she took one more quick at herself in the mirror.

Never being a vain person, Mae looked at herself and wondered, would this attract a boy? Mae didn’t know so she said ‘Maybe,’ out loud.  Then she exhaled and left her room.

When Mae got to the living area she found Alexi, sitting on the sofa watching TV. Mae was taken back by how smart and handsome Alexi looked. He was wearing dark blue jeans, black shoes, a black and white check shirt, a grey waist coast and pink bow tie.

‘You look beautiful,’ said Alexi, when he took notice of Mae.

‘Thanks you too,’ said Mae, feeling a little weird calling Alexi beautiful.

‘Everyone is late,’ said Alexi, rising from the sofa. As he did Mae took notice of his extremely trim figure in this outfit.

‘Yes they are,’ said Mae, not sure wither to sit.

‘Okay I’m ready,’ said Rosetta, coming in the room.

Rosetta was certainly ready, as she was wearing a very tight red dress with matching heels. The dress was also cut very low, to take advantage of her gifts. The dress also did a good job of showing off her sex appeal.

‘Don’t you too look good,’ said Rosetta, taking in Mae and Alexi. ‘This is indeed a hot flat.’

‘Hey guys,’ said Sophitia, when she came into the room.  She looked the same as earlier, only difference was that she was were wearing a little cardigan over her shoulders. ‘You guys all look so good. Where’s Marc and Tea?’

Where were they indeed? Mae had hoped Marc would have been the first one to see her. But now with Rosetta in the room, that wasn’t going to happen. Knowing she would be noticed last, Mae went and threw herself down on the sofa.

‘Hey, hey party people,’ said Tea coming into the room. Mae didn’t look up to see her come in. ‘Sorry we’re late I realised you guys wouldn’t have anything for a pre drink.’

            ‘A what?’ asked Sophitia?

‘We have a couple drinks here, get a nice buzz, then we head to the club to do the damm thing.’

Mae looked up from the TV when she heard a clinking noise near her. It was Marc carrying two bags. He was wearing, white shoes, blue skinny jeans, with a grey top and a blue leather jacket. He also had put some product in his hair to make it look more styled.

‘You looked nice,’ said Mae, as Marc put the bags on the table.

‘Thanks,’ said Marc, with a smile. ‘And you look really hot by the way.’

There were tiny explosions going off inside Mae’s chest. Marc had noticed her! This was only the start.

‘Thank you,’ said Mae, when she was able to speak. ‘Just something I had.’

‘Dam girl, you look hot,’ said Tea, bring over another bag.

‘I just said that,’ said Marc.

‘See this is why we’re friends we’ve got good taste.’

Flattered by the attention, Mae wondered if she should dress like this more often.

‘Alright you fudgers,’ said Tea, opening the bags. ‘We have beer, cider, vodka and diet coke. A couple of VK’s, a cheap ass bottle of champaign and orange juice. Next time you get your own.’

‘I paid for half of this,’ said Marc, ‘so don’t take all the credit.’

‘Yeah, yeah thank you Marc, whatever,’ said Tea. ‘Where’s your cups at?’

As Sophitia helped Tea find a cup, Rosetta went straight for the vodka, and Alexi took a beer. Marc also took a beer, but Mae didn’t know what to choose.

‘What you having,’ asked Marc, taking a seat next to Mae.

‘Umm I don’t know,’ said Mae. ‘I don’t really drink.’

‘You’ve had a drink before right?’

‘I’ve had a cup for this and that before, never really saw the appeal.’

‘Okay,’ said Marc, sympathetically. ‘You know you don’t have to drink.’

‘I know,’ said Mae, nodding. ‘But we’re meant to be celebrating.’

‘You can celebrate with coke, or orange juice.’

‘I guess,’ said Mae, extremely glad Marc wasn’t pushing her to drink. ‘What would you recommend?’

‘Well,’ said Marc, taking one of everything off the table. ‘A beer is kinda laddish, Cider is apples, and VK’s are just sweet.’ Mae pulled a face and Marc noticed. ‘I think for you some buck’s fizz would be good for.’

            ‘What’s that?’ asked Mae.

‘Champagne and orange juice,’ explained Marc. ‘You can put as much champagne in the glass as you want, and fill with orange.’

‘Okay,’ said Mae, so flattered Marc was helping her this much.

‘Tea, bring me a glass,’ said Marc, getting the champagne and opening it carefully. ‘This enough?’ he asked putting a little bit in a glass. Mae shook her head, and Marc added a bit more. ‘Cool?’

‘Thanks,’ said Mae, taking the glass from Marc. Marc then filled the glass half way with orange juice. Mae then sipped the drink; all she could taste was orange with an odd taste. ‘It’s okay.’

‘Then cheers,’ said Marc, tapping his can on Mae’s glass.

Before they were ready to leave Mae had three more glasses of bucks fizz. She didn’t make them Marc had made them all. She had the feeling each time he was adding a bit more champagne. Rosetta had a beer, after doing shots with Tea, while Sophitia had been quietly sipping away at a can of cider, whereas Alexi and Marc had also gone through their stock of beer.

Mae didn’t think she was drunk at all, she felt fine, but she didn’t want to push it. Everyone else seemed to be acting the same, only difference everyone seemed to be talking a bit louder.

‘Cab’s here, let’s go,’ said Tea, suddenly.

‘What?’ asked Mae, completely lost of the time.

‘We’re going honey,’ said Tea, clapping her hands. ‘Let’s go.’

As Mae stood up, it felt very weird for her to stand. She fumbled a little bit to find her footing, but both Alexi and Marc were there to grab her.

            ‘You alright?’ asked Alexi.

            ‘Yeah,’ replied Mae.

Alexi was then grabbed by Rosetta, and made his way to door, closely followed by Sophitia.

‘Are you sure you’re okay?’ asked Marc.

‘I’m fine!’ said Mae, ‘it just felt a little weird standing up.’

‘I think the drink has gone to your head. Are you sure you can walk, cos if you can’t I will hold your hand.’

Completely lost for breath, Mae swallowed and began to breathe again.

‘I think I’ll need a little bit of help,’ said Mae, not wanting to waste and opportunity.

Marc smiled, which made him look even more attractive, and took hold of Mae’s hand. The warmth of his hand, made Mae’s hart race. She felt like she was air, and if Marc wasn’t holding her hand she would be on the floor.

Remembering they were meant to be moving, Mae took a breath to steady her and allowed Marc to lead her out of the flat, and down the stairs. Mae too giddy from the experience and the drinks, tripped on the last step. Feeling herself fall, she was shocked when she felt something sturdy behind her. Marc had quickly grabbed Mae, saving her from her little fall.

‘Are you really sure you’re alright?’ asked Marc, his face just few inches from Mae’s.

‘Everything is so perfect right now,’ said Mae.

            ‘I think you’re a little drunk.’

I think you should kiss me, is what Mae thought and wanted.

            ‘I’m fine.’

‘You’re the boss,’ said Marc, putting Mae in an upright position.

The two of them finally got outside, and got into the cab. Due to the two of them being the last out, meant they got to sit next to each other. Forgetting Marc was only helping her walk, Mae grabbed hold of his hand again once they were inside the cab. They held hand all the way till they reached the club. When Mae went to get out of the car, she hoped Marc would come help her out, but instead it was Alexi who helped.

The queue to get into Tidal was huge, it was only eleven and the line seemed to go all the way to the end of the street. It was going to be a long wait. As the group went to go and join the back of the line, Tea called the group to go the front of the queue.

‘Tea Clarke, party of six,’ said Tea, to a man holding a clip board.

‘This you’re six?’ asked the Man.

            ‘Certainly is.’

‘Let’s check some ID’s and you guys can go in and have a good night.’

After their ID’s were checked they were swiftly ushered into the club.

‘What did you do?’ asked Marc.

‘I got us a VIP package,’ said Tea, simply.

            ‘But why?’

‘I can see that most of this lot have never really parted before, so I thought for their first night I’m going to take them out and do it right.’

‘But how are you affording this?’ asked Marc.

‘I put it all on the sperm donor,’ said Tea, waving off the question.

‘Miss Clarke?’ asked a woman, coming from out of nowhere.

‘That’s me,’ Tea said, to the woman.

‘We have your booth ready for you up in the main ballroom, with your two bottles of champagne and vodka. I just need to know your mixers and anything else you will be needed this evening.’

‘Well have one energy and diet coke, and can you send up six beers.’

‘Right away,’ said the woman, ‘please follow me.

They were taken up the stairs, past two rooms on a big landing, then up another flight of stairs, to a large room, and they went up another set of stairs to where the booths were, behind a bouncer. They walked to a booth, which had three ice buckets sitting on them. When the woman left, two other women came with two jugs and an ice bucket full of beers.

The rest of their night went pretty well from that point onwards. Rather liking the idea of sticking to one drink. Mae decided to get some orange juice and had a few more glasses of bucks fizz. She also got Sophitia into drinking them with her. They were having a good time, Tea decided it was time for them to go and dance.

It was fun as they left their secluded area to join the masses on the dance floor. When they were on the floor Rosetta got a lot of attention, she was being watched by a lot of different kinds of men. She seemed to enjoy the attention.

The only attention Mae wanted was from Marc, who hadn’t been anyway towards her since they got into the club. He spoke to Alexi when they first got in, and then spoke to Sophitia, which was all fine. But Mae wondered when she was going to get her turn again.

Deciding she wanted to get another drink Mae went back to the table. When she got to the table she was disappointed to find the champagne was finished. Feeling like she still needed a drink, she took some of the vodka and mixed it with the coke, which gave her a weird feeling, when it went down her throat. She then quickly finished the drink and headed back to find the others.

When Mae got back to the other she saw something that made her sick to her stomach. Rosetta was dancing way too close to Marc. Why was she doing that, didn’t she have enough guys wanting her, that she didn’t have to go after Marc.

Unsure what to do Mae wanted to run, but she didn’t, she just watched for a minute and hoped it would stop.

‘Let’s go dance yeah!’ shouted Alexi over the music, making Mae jump. Mae nodded and let Alexi take her by the hand back to where everyone was dancing.

It took a few seconds to realise she was holding hands with Alexi. It was different than it was with Marc. Alexi’s hands seemed a little rougher, and maybe a little bigger. It didn’t feel as nice as when Marc did it, but it did still feel nice all the same.

When they reached the group Marc had stopped dancing so close to Rosetta, but Mae didn’t care as she knew it would happen again. So she decided to start dancing real close to Alexi, and really wasn’t sure what she was doing. But one thing she was doing was not thinking about Marc any more.

There was a phone ringing, right in Mae’s ear. Waking up suddenly Mae reached round and grabbed the phone to stop it ringing.

            ‘Hello,’ she answered.

‘Mae Monique Grant, what are these pictures of you on Facebook?’ asked her Mum.
